As we continue our Make Lent Real journey this Lent, we’re revisiting one of the core pillars of Lent: almsgiving—but with a deeper challenge. It’s easy to give money. Write a check. Drop something in the poor box. But this week, we’re asking something more: give your time. Time is one of our most precious resources—and often the hardest to give. Yet, it may be the most meaningful gift we can offer. This week’s challenge is simple, but not easy:
Each day, intentionally give your time to someone else.
It might look like:
• Sitting and really listening to your spouse after a long day
• Spending intentional time with your kids
• Giving attention to a coworker who just needs someone to listen
• Reaching out to someone you might normally avoid
When we give our time, we don’t just help others—we reflect the love of God in a real and personal way.
Key Takeaways
• Why almsgiving is more than just giving money
• How time is one of the most meaningful gifts we can offer

As we continue our Lenten Journey, hopefully you’re still with us, hopefully, you haven’t fallen off yet. But we’re going to really take it up this week and revisit almsgiving, But, you know, it’s kind of easy to write a check. Drop a few dollars in the poor box. This week, I’m going to challenge you to almsgive with your time. Time is our most precious commodity. None of us have enough, but each day this week to take time for someone else. You’ll be taking some time to spend with your kids, time to listen to your spouse, who’s had a hard day, time to sit to that and listen to that co-worker who always going on and on about something. We all tend to avoid people who suck up a lot of time because we don’t have enough of it. But this week I want you to give alms with your time. Each and every day to give a little bit of time to someone who might just need to talk. Someone who needs a kind word. Someone who need someone to listen. We can be amazed how our generosity with our time can really show someone the love of God. So as we give of our time this week, let’s remember why we’re really doing it – to show God’s love to someone else.
