Jolt of Faith 5/8 – The Meaning of “Blessed Are You Among Women” –  Scripture Reflection for May

So as we’re in the month of May, looking at lines from the Hail Mary, we’ve already seen that the first half of the Hail Mary every line is a direct quotation from scripture. So this week, we’re looking at “blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” But these are lines directly taken from the mouth of Elizabeth. When Mary goes after she’s conceived Jesus, Mary goes to visit Elizabeth and Elizabeth greets her by saying “blessed are you among women, blessed the fruit of your womb.” What Elizabeth is doing is she’s recalling the fact that very beginning, after the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden, God promised that a savior was going to be given to the human race that would be born of a woman.

And so Elizabeth is recognizing you are that woman. And so blessed are you happy are you that among all women you have been chosen to be the Mother of the Savior. And then, of course, blessed is the fruit of your womb. Blessed is the Child born from you who is our Savior.
