Jolt of Faith 3/13 – Lent Meditation: Transform Your Prayer Life by Meditating on the Lord’s Passion
So the Church during Lent asks us to pray, and we should be praying all the time. But in a particular way,the Church invites us during Lent to renew our deep and personal relationship with the Lord in prayer. One aspect of prayer I think we could really lean into during Lent is frequent meditation on the Lord’s Passion. Now this is an uncomfortable thing to do to think about all the sufferings that Christ endured, but it’s supposed to help us come to a deeper love of Him.
Because we realize and see much more clearly how much He did for me, the length and the extent of His love. And the saints also tell us that meditating the Lord’s Passion is really, really powerful. St. Albert, the great, said that one moment of thinking of our Lord’s Passion does more good for a soul than an entire year an entire year’s worth of of fasting and scourging oneself and doing all kinds of intense penance.
There are many ways we can meditate in the Lord’s Passion, Stations of the Cross, the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, I think an easy way that I want to encourage us to enter into the Passion every day is through the Divine Mercy Chaplet. It’s a prayer where we frequently say for the sake of this sorrowful Passion.Have mercy on us in the whole world. It’s an easy way, easy invitation to think about our Lord’s Passion maybe even every day in a short prayer that only takes a few minutes.
