In today’s Jolt of Faith, we look at Jesus entering the waters of the Jordan — not because He needed cleansing, but to reveal who He is and to show us something about who we are.
When the Father declares, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased,” it happens before Jesus begins His mission.
Identity comes before mission.
And what’s true for Jesus is also true for us:
Through Baptism we share in His sonship — we are beloved first, and then we are sent.
Not a sermon, not a homily… just the little jolt of faith we all need. ⚡🙏
In this Jolt of Faith, you’ll learn:
– Jesus wasn’t baptized to be cleansed, but to reveal Himself
– The Father affirms Jesus before His mission begins
– Identity precedes mission — for Jesus and for us
– By baptism we share His sonship
– We are beloved first… and then we are sent

Jesus’ Baptism: Identity Before Mission | Jolt of Faith 1/22/26
When Jesus goes down to the river to be baptized, He goes there not to be cleansed because He didn’t need to. But to reveal himself to us to reveal His identity and to show us something. And he reveals His identity to us because He comes and takes our humanity so that He can partake in us and we can be drawn to Him. And as we hear the Father’s voice, “this is my beloved Son, in him I am well pleased” , we see how the Father loves the Son, even before He starts His mission. So His identity comes before the mission before He actually starts His mission. And that is also true with us. We receive our identity, we participate, as sons in the Son we shared that sonship in Christ, and then we are also called to go out and share the Father’s love for all humanity. Not a sermon or a homily, just a little Jolt of Faith that we all need.
