How to “Decorate Your Heart” for Advent | Jolt of Faith 12/11

As we continue our Advent journey, we often focus on decorating our homes—lights, trees, colors, and everything that makes the season feel warm and welcoming. But Advent invites us to something deeper: to decorate our hearts and make them a beautiful, joyful place for Christ to dwell.

In this Jolt of Faith, we reflect on simple and meaningful ways to spiritually “adorn” our hearts through prayer, service, and acts of charity. Just as we prepare our homes for Christmas guests, we are called to prepare our hearts for the Lord who comes.

In this video, you’ll hear about:

  • How Christmas decorating mirrors our spiritual preparation
  • What it means to make your heart “hospitable” for Christ
  • Practical ways to enrich your spiritual life this Advent
  • Opportunities for prayer, ministry, and service
  • How acts of charity and mercy beautify the “true home” where Christ lives
  • A gentle reminder to focus on interior preparation, not just exterior celebrations

How to “Decorate Your Heart” for Advent | Jolt of Faith 12/11

As we continue to look at, how do I prepare for Advent? One of the things we do at Christmas time, is we decorate. We make our house hospitable, we make it beautiful, we make a joyous whether it’s tree, lights, whatever it is to make it feel, welcome to those coming to celebrate the holiday with us. What are we doing to decorate so to speak our own hearts and make them a welcome for Christ? You know, Advent is a great time to do something, whether it’s just start praying more. Whether it’s to work at the soup kitchen, whether it’s to get involved, something to adorn to make more ready and more welcoming our hearts for the Lord. If we’re not praying every day, Advent is a great time to do that, maybe it’s a great time for me to get involved in one of the ministries in the Pastorate or my own Parish. Maybe it’s a great time for me to get involved in the community by getting involved in the soup kitchen, the shelter, whatever it is to make my heart more festive, more welcoming more attractive to the Lord. You know, we decorate our homes to represent a joy of the upcoming Christmas season. What are we adding to our hearts, our true spiritual home to make them more welcoming, more attractive, more festive. To be that place that Christ can dwell in us. As we decorate our houses to celebrate Christmas, let’s make sure I’m decorating my heart with those Spiritual Works of Mercy, and of Charity that are so important as well. Not a sermon, not a homily just that little Jolt of Faith.
